How to Potty Train a Toddler

If you are a new mom, then it is a more exciting yet difficult journey of learning the normal age for potty training your boy, little girl, or toddler.

At times, you literally have no idea what to do and what not to do at this stage. In some cases, new moms are usually not aware of the normal age for potty training for children at the right time.

I understand this because moms are not that expert in potty training and they have to learn on their own gradually with time.

What is the Normal Age for Potty Training?

The average normal age for potty training is a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 3 ½ years. This age is for both boys and girls.

So the question is at what age should a child be fully potty trained?

The average normal age is between ages 4 and 5. Most boys and girls are fully potty trained by the time they are 5 to 6 years old.

So remember not to force your child for potty training before he or she is prepared because all kids are different, your child may get some time to recognize things.

Parents should keep in mind that every child has their own set timeline to be followed.

All those things which one child can easily do in the one year of their life, it is not necessary the other child will do in the same set of time. So, when it comes to the normal age for potty training, some will learn early and some will take time.

So to learn how to exactly potty train them at the normal age, you have to learn the behaviour of your child and their learning skills. Do not pressurize your child, just make all the learnings with fun and easy for them.

There are many tried and tested tricks and tips to overcome those difficult levels of each phase that I have described above to potty train a toddler.

Boys and Girl Potty Training Tips

Now we will show you some tips for boys and girl potty training. It is always a challenging task for you whether you have boys or a girl potty training. This potty training creates a lot of mess in case the mom fails to catch the right time.

Thankfully there are many boys and girl potty training tips & techniques present to help moms with this challenging task.

Here are some boys and girl potty training tips:

Make Habit to Sit on Potty Training Seat

Whenever they wake up, even after a nap of 10 minutes, take them to the potty training seat and make them sit. Try to potty train and build the habit of your child using a potty training seat just before going to bed, even if they are just going to take a 10 minutes nap.

Wake Your Child Up from Sleep

When they are asleep, you have to wake your child up for a little while within a 2 to 3 hours gap and let them sit on the seat. This way they will not wet your mattress.

Every child has a usual set time for pooping.

You just have to find out at that time, which they prefer to poop most often. Just like most children poop in the morning and night time before going to bed.

When You Increased Your Child’s Liquid Intake

Whenever you feel your child’s liquid intake increases, they will pee more often. So keep them sit multiple times on the potty training seat than usual.

Do Not Distract Your Child While on Potty Training Seat

When they are on the potty training seat, do not disturb them or distract their attention. Don’t talk with them or show them anything which attracts them like cell phones, toys, or TV. They will easily forget what they were doing may leave the potty training seat.

Always Put Potty Training Seat in Bathroom

Try to put the potty training seat in the bathroom. In this way, they will learn from their surroundings. This will make them realize that they should do this thing in the toilet and not anywhere else.

When accidentally they pee or poop in their pants

You have to make them realize they did something wrong. For this purpose, you have to clean the mess in front of them and repeat again and again that “this is the wrong thing you did” or “you should do that in the toilet”.

Immediately at the same time you have to take your child to the toilet or towards their potty training seat and tell them we supposed to pee/poop here.

Take them again to the place where the accident happened and tell them this is the wrong place and repeat this thing for a good 3 to 4 times.

In this way, they will remember this thing by heart.

All the above points about potty training are truly a hectic effort, but worth your time!

While you are on a task to potty train your child, keep the following points in mind:
